Eläinkuvioita - Animal patterns

Viimeisimmällä ompelurupeamallani kulutin Johanna Ahlardin ihastuttavan "Finn Djuren" -luomupuuvillatrikoon loppuun. Pojan yöpuku ja vauvan (muokattu) "Mustikkahaalari" ovat molemmat Ottobresta 9/2006. Vauvaa varten löytäisin mielelläni haalarikaavan, jonka etu-ja takaosa koostuisivat ihan vain yhdestä palasesta kumpainenkin, saa mieluusti vinkata jos joku tietää! En oikein osaa itse ajatella minkä mallinen haaraosasta pitäisi tehdä ilman keskisaumaa...?

Vauvan kirjekuorikaula-aukollinen body on tehty samalla kaavalla kuin tämä aikaisemmin tekemäni body, jota kaveri on jälkikäteen kehunut hyväksi - valitettavasti en ollut kaavaan kirjoittanut mistä lehdestä sen olen piirtänyt. Mietin että tuohon voi sitten jälkikäteen helposti lisätä nepit kaula-aukkoon jos se alkaa käytössä löystyä lepsuksi, mutta kokeillaan ensin näin.

With my recent sewing session, I used up the rest of Johanna Ahlard's wonderful "Finn Djuren" organic cotton jersey. The pyjama for my son and the "Mustikka" overalls for the baby are both from Ottobre 9/2006, the overall has been modified a bit. For the baby I would love to find an overall pattern that would have just a single-piece front and back, so please let me know if you know of such a pattern! I can't really figure out how the crotch part should be shaped without the middle seam?!

The envelope-necked body has been done with the same pattern as the one I made earlier, with which my friend was happy. Unfortunately I had not written down the pattern where I drew it from. I was thinking that if the neck becomes too loose, it's easy to add snap buttons to it later on, but let's try it like this for now.

Helikoptereita - Helicopters

Poika sai vihdoin kauan sitten tilaamansa helikopteripaidan! Ja kyllä sen perään on sitten jaksettukin monta kertaa kysellä! Tämä oli siitä hauska ompelutehtävä, että poika tosiaan huomasi kankaan itse kun olin selailemassa Ikasyrin sivuja ja vieläpä äkkäsi vieressä olleen raitakankaan visioiden heti: "Minä haluan helikopteripaidan! Tässä masun päällä olisi helikoptereita ja selässä raitoja!"

Tällainen "perussininen" tai "taivaansininen" ei kuulu millään tavalla lempiväreihini eikä oikeastaan edes sovi meidän kalpeille lapsille, mutta pakkohan noin hyvin visioitu tilaus oli toteuttaa! Poikaparka vaan ehti aika monta kertaa kysellä paitansa perään, koska tilasin kankaat siskoni osoitteeseen Suomeen ja hän sitten postitti ne sieltä tänne Australiaan. Mutta voi sitä riemua kun paita vihdoin valmistui!

...ja kun isosisko huomasi miten iloinen pikkuveli oli omasta helikopteripaidastaan, niin hänellekin piti ommella oma samanlainen. :)

Our son finally got the helicopter shirt he "ordered" a long time ago; he's been asking for it many, many times! This was a fun sewing project in that he noticed the fabric when I was browsing Ikasyr's website and even noticed the striped fabric next to it, envisioning: "I want a helicopter shirt! The helicopters could be here on my belly, and on the back there would be some stripes!"

This "basic" or "sky blue" is not exactly one of my favorite colors, and doesn't even go too well on our pale kids, but of course I had to fulfill such a specific order! The poor boy had to ask for the shirt quite a few times, because I ordered the fabrics to my sister in Finland, and she then forwarded them to Australia. But he was ecstatic when the shirt was finally done!

... and when his big sister noticed how happy he was of his new helicopter shirt, she of course needed her own one, too!

Tilkkulaatikon tyhjennystä - Emptying the patchwork box

Oli aika tehdä tilkkulaatikon siivous, koska laatikon kansi ei suostunut enää menemään kiinni. Kaadoin kaikki tilkut pöydälle, lajittelin trikoopalat omaan kasaansa ja tilkkupuuvillat kahteen kasaan värien mukaan. Seuraavaksi leikkasin isomman tilkkupuuvillakasan palaset 10x10cm neliöiksi - sitä pienemmät palat joutivat roskikseen. Lopputuloksena syntyi tilkkutäkki tulevalle vauvalle, kokoa täkillä on 70 x 90 cm. Välikerroksena on puuvillavanua ja taustapuolen kankaaksi valitsin Anna Maria Hornerin "Bubble burst", jonka olin aluperin ajatellut tytölleni mekkokankaaksi, mutta se sopikin mielestäni mukavasti peiton tunnelmaan. Ja tilkkulaatikossa on taas ihanasti tilaa! :)




It was time to clean up the box that holds remnant fabric pieces, since the lid wouldn't close anymore. I spread all the patches on the table, sorted the jersey ones to their own pile and patchwork cotton to two different piles according the color. Then I cut one pile of the patchwork cotton pieces to 10x10cm pieces and anything smaller ended up in the trash bin. As a result I made this 70 x 90cm patchwork quilt for the baby. The backing is made of Anna Maria Horner's "Bubble burst" fabric that I had originally planned to use for a dress, but I think it suits the quilt nicely. Now I have plenty more room in the patchwork box! :)

Punavalkoista - Red & white

Testailen nyt innolla vauvanvaatteiden kaavoja - näistä seteistä vasemmanpuoleinen on koossa 56cm ja oikeanpuoleinen koossa 68cm. Harmikseni en löytänyt housuihin mistään harmaata resoria, jos joku siis osaa neuvoa mistä saisi (tumman) harmaata resoria niin olisin vinkistä kiitollinen! Velourhousuihin kokeilin ensimmäistä kertaa tehdä reikäkuminauhalla säädettävän vyötärön.

I'm excitedly trying out different baby cloth patterns - of these sets, the one on the left is in size 56cm and the one on the right in 68cm. To my disappointment I couldn't find grey ribbing for the pants anywhere, so if anyone knows where I can get that in (dark) grey, I'd be grateful! For the velour pants I made an adjustable waist for the first time (with an elastic that has button holes).

Viimeiset pöllöt - The last owls

Sain tilauksen turkoosista pöllöpaidasta ja tällä kertaa pöllöjä esiin kaivellessa tuli sellainen olo, että nyt olisi aika luopua tästä kuosista - sen verran pitkään mulla on tätä kangasta ollut ja vieläpä kolmessa eri värissä. Tilauspaidan tehtyäni ja samantien postitettuani otin siis loput vihreät ja turkoosit pöllöt esiin ja käytin ne loppuun viimeistä palaa myöten. Syntyi vauvan oloasu koossa 56 cm (alla kuva samasta asusta niin että housut näkyy sekä edestä että takaa), ystävän pojalle paita yksivuotiaan koossa ja omalle pojalle vielä se viimeinen pöllöpaita.

Vauvan asua tehdessä pääsin kokeilemaan kahta itselleni uutta juttua: nappilistan tekoa sekä juuri tilaamani KAM-neppikoneen käyttöä. Nepeistä olenkin nyt kovasti innoissani, tilasin laitteen mukana värikartan nepeistä ja niitähän löytyy vaikka missä ihanissa sävyissä!

I got an order for an owl shirt, and this time when taking out the owl fabric I got the feeling that it's finally time to get rid of this pattern - I've had it for such a long time, and even in three colors. After I made and shipped the order, I took the rest of the green and turquoise owls out and used them all. Out of them came a baby outfit in size 56cm (the first pictures show the pants from the front and back), a shirt for a friend's son in one-year-old size and one last owl shirt for my son.

When making the baby outfit I got to try out two new things: making a snap placket and using my brand new KAM snap press. I'm very excited about the snaps right now; I ordered a snap color pattern with the machine and turns out they're available in all kinds of wonderful colors!

Peitto siskon vauvalle - blanket for sister's baby

Hei pitkästä aikaa. Itselläni on riittänyt kiirettä opintojen ja töiden kanssa, joten käsityöt ovat jääneet täysin tauolle. Onneksi Sarita on yksin pitänyt meidän yhteistä blogia pystyssä... Vielä vähän hiljaisuutta omalta osaltani on odotettavissa, kun lopputyöt painaa päälle, ja yritän saada itseni valmiiksi (jonka jälkeen voi taas hyvällä omatunnolla vähän jälleen ommellakin, eikös?).

Jotain pientä oli nyt kuitenkin pakko tehdä. Niinkuin Sarita jo paljastikin, niin heidän perheeseensä odotetaan kolmatta lasta. Niin kuin toisen siskonkin vauvalle, niin myös Saritalle lupasin neuloa vauvanpeiton. Päätin vähän kokeilla palmikoita (joita en ole vielä koskaan neulonut mihinkään käyttöön tulevaan käsityöhön), mutta en halunnut tehdä peittoa pelkästään palmikoista, joten tällainen tuli. Reunat jälleen virkattu.

Malli on siis oma, mutta kaipaa yhä kehittämistä (en voi suositella helmineuleen ja palmikon yhdistämistä tällä tavalla). Mitat on n.60x70 cm ja lankana SandnesGarnin Easy, joka on 100% merinovillaa. Samasta langasta siis tein jo aiemmin toisen siskon vauvalle peiton, ja se on ollut ainakin käytössä todella pehmeä ja rakastettu.

Pahoittelen hiljaisuutta omalta osaltani, mutta ette te ole varmaan mua tainneet ikävöidä. ;)

I've been really busy with my studies (and work) because I'm planning (hoping) to graduate during this year from university. So that's why I haven't been doing any sewing after summer. Gladly Sarita has been taking care of all handicrafts and this blog... I anyways had to knit now a little for the baby Sarita's expecting. :)

This blanket is made from SandnesGarn Easy. It's 100% merino wool, and rly soft and lovable. The model is my own. It's size is about 60x70 cm which is a good size to be used in pram. :)

Hopefully I can start to sew again soon. :)

Tunikasetti - Tunic outfit

Nämä suloiset puput ja muut metsäneläimet pääsivät tyttöni esikouluasuksi piristämään pian saapuvia syksyisiä päiviä. Tykkään kovasti kankaan iloisista ja vahvoista väreistä! Sommitellessani resoreja tunikaan huomasin miten kivalle musta ja mangonkeltainen näyttävätkään vierekkäin, siitä yhdistelmästähän voisi kehitellä myöhemmin jotain muutakin!

Täällä alkaa kesä enteillä vaihtumistaan syksyksi, jonka vuoksi sää aiheuttaa pohdintaa lapsen pukemisen suhteen. Viikon pisin esikoulupäivä on seitsemän tuntia - näin loppukesän aamulla lämpötila voi lähtiessä olla +16 ja lasta iltapäivällä kotiin hakiessa hyvinkin +26, tai jopa reilusti yli kolmenkymmenen... On siinä siis hieman pohtimista mitä laittaa lapselle aamulla päälle, ei nuo nelivuotiaat kesken päivän rupea asujaan kauheasti kuitenkaan vaihtelemaan.

This set was made for my daughter to use at her kindergarten. I really like the bright colors and the happy pattern of this fabric! When choosing the ribbing color, I noticed what a great combination mango-yellow and black make - I might try some ideas with that combination later!

The summer seems to be getting to its end here - the mornings are cooler and the sunshine is becoming yellow instead of the burning white sunshine we have here in the summer. The chancing weather makes dressing my preschooler a little bit challenging. The longest day at the kindergarten is seven hours, so in the morning it might be +16C when I drop her off and in the afternoon it might be +26C, with some days still going over +30C degrees. Anyway, it's been such a long and hot summer and I haven't really been enjoying all the heat while pregnant that I'm looking positively forward to autumn!
